High Momentum Particle Identification Detector

The HMPID identifies charged particles with large momentum, which is a physical quantity related to the particle's mass and speed.

Particle identification plays a key role in the complete understanding of heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. The HMPID system enhances the identification capabilities of ALICE beyond the momentum range allowed by the measurement of energy loss (ITS and TPC) and time of flight (TOF). It is a Ring Imaging Cherenkov Detector (RICH).
